Three Ways to Develop An Amazing Comic Book

Comic book creators are a unique community of people who are hugely talented, insanely imaginative, and incredibly diverse. With all of that creativity flowing through their veins, it can sometimes be a difficult task to concentrate that focus into telling a cohesive story (or, rather, a collection of stories) and producing a solid book. While it can be tough to bring a comic book project to fruition, it isn’t impossible. Following a few tips and sticking to some goals is a proven recipe to cook an amazing book for the masses to enjoy.

Gathering Teams

One of the ways that successful comic book creators make sure their works are published is to convene a dedicated collective of gifted artists. Ghost Machine is one of the first outfits to be fully owned by its creators. Through a brilliant network of visual artists and storytellers, these creative souls fuel the fan-favorite graphic storytelling machine that is otherwise known as Ghost Machine Comics.

A great example of how a team produces a great comic book is demonstrated by Ghost Machine’s new comic, The Rocketfellers. Created by Rob Leigh, Francis Manapul, and Peter J. Tomasi, the story explores the adventures of a futuristic, time-traveling family who seeks safety and refuge in the past. On top of the amazing visual art, the storytelling is top-notch. This zany, but loving family seems to constantly stumble into misadventures, while finding redemption and meaningfulness on the way. These three creators are the epitome of how a good team can bring a fresh story to comic book enthusiasts. So, putting a team together of the best creators possible is a solid way to begin the process of producing an excellent collection of graphic storytelling.

Networking

Another way of producing a compelling piece of comic art is to tap into a network. People might be surprised to find that there are some steadfast comic book and graphic art associations around the world, some of which are located stateside. It’s not a bad idea to comb through regional and state-level associations, either. That way, networking with other artists and enthusiasts might be more accessible and frequent than an annual meet-up like Comic-con. However, those yearly conventions are nothing short of amazing and are definitely worth a trip, if possible.

There are also online groups and forums that creators can use to connect with other industry talent, both known and unknown. The comic book community is bigger than one might think and the power of networking should not be underestimated.

Putting Work Out There

Comic book creators are an innovative lot who have been finding ways to get their masterpieces out into the public for decades. Thanks to various online spaces and publishing tools, there are no shortages of different avenues for people to create their own comic books. Of course, tried-and-true graphic art publishers are still in existence, too.

Persistence is key, however. Although comic books sales slipped by seven percent in 2023, it is still a billion-dollar industry with plenty of room for its talented creators. Is it worth a try and putting the work out there? There is no doubt about it. People have and will always love comic books. Anyone who wants to jump into the fray just needs a great story, amazing art, and the passion to pursue the venture.
